We provide your kayak, paddle and life vest, we’ll also provide instruction and direction. We do however encourage people dress appropriately with light weight clothing avoiding dark colours and water shoes are a good option. It’s essential you bring water (Aussie Mike often has bottled water for sale) for hydration. It is Mandatory that someone in your party brings a phone in case of emergency (dry bags available for rent upon request).

Our advice would be early morning or late afternoon to avoid North Carolina’s harsh sun. Extreme weather conditions can be a common occurrence so preparing yourself is important. Having the correct light clothing and plenty of water for hydration is highly recommended.

Mike or one of his team will provide a 5-7 minute safety and skill demonstration. This will guide you through some minimum water safety instructions and a brief paddle demonstration. If you don’t arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your booking you will waive this demonstration as we are on strict time schedules.

Our guides do accept and greatly appreciate tips! Standard gratuity is usually 20%, but feel free to tip your guide more if you loved their tour!

We cannot wait for late arrivals because it’s unfair to other customers on the tour. You should plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to the start time.
You need to call ahead if you running late so the group doesn’t leave without you

Yes is the short answer. All of Aussie Yaks tours are designed for leisure, family friendly fun. Lets not forget you are not in a lake so their is a current to contend with along with wind chop depending on conditions but Aussie Yaks doesn’t take risk’s so if the conditions aren’t safe you’ll be offered rescheduling and if that isn’t possible full refund available.

No age requirements at all. We recommend children under 12 years of age paddle in a tandem kayak with an adult.

Due to extreme weather conditions rescheduling and cancellations unfortunately do occur. Firstly we’ll try to reschedule but let me reassure you that if you don’t paddle you’ll get a 100% refund. If we start and complete 50% this will be considered non refundable however you you will always have the option to reschedule before departure.

We have a range of Sit-In Kayaks and Sit-on top kayaks, they both have pro’s and cons. Sit-on top kayaks are in many aspects safer, if you capsize a sit-on top kayak it can easily be righted to allow you to climb back on top and continue paddling. You are more likely to get damp/wet but in the heat it’s often nice and cooling. Sit-In kayaks will keep you dryer from splash and wake however if you capsize a sit in kayak they can be very difficult to right the boat in deep waters and then the water will need to be emptied.

Yes, we have brand new Pfas free life vest’s. They are certified in accordance with North Carolina maritime standards.
