Masonboro Island Intracoastal Tour

Explore and Immerse yourself, adventure awaits!

“Blimey” this place is magical, Aussie Mikes favourite tour is of the Intracoastal waterways which provide a rich and diverse eco-system protected just like much of Wilmington by Masonboro Island one of the largest undisturbed barrier islands on the southern NC coast.

We’ll explore the Island itself as well as the some of the many intricate salt marsh estuaries. As we get very close to the open Atlantic Ocean the unique range of species that we might cross is expansive and exciting, book now, don’t miss out!

I would recommend confident kayak paddlers and above for this location as you will cross a busy boat channel and cross lots of boat wake due to the popularity of the Masonboro intracoastal.

Speak to Mike if you have any concerns.

We always seek to do something different on our vacation – this was fun; we found lots of teeth and the kayaking was not difficult at all! Thank you Mike 💕

My husband and I booked the Masonboro tour with Michael after really loving the Shark Tooth Island tour. We were first time kayakers and he made us feel comfortable and the shark island tour was a lot of fun. We came home with 34+ teeth. We then asked him if we could book a longer paddle tour with him and he suggested the Masonboro tour. This took us through a

Aussie Yaks is amazing. They rented kayaks to us for a trip to Shark Tooth Island in Wilmington, NC and they went out of their way to make the experience great. They gave us so much advice on where to see wildlife and what to look for. They were so friendly, especially to our 3 year old. They went out of their way to support anything we needed help with.

FRequently asked Questions

Masonboro Island waterways are tidal and at low tide and get very tricky to navigate, it can turn into more of a walking tour so higer tides are recommended. Our advice would be early morning or late afternoon to avoid North Carolina’s harsh sun. Extreme weather conditions can be a common occurrence so preparing yourself is important. Having the correct light clothing and plenty of water for hydration is highly recommended.

Due to extreme weather conditions rescheduling and cancellations unfortunately do occur. Firstly we’ll try to reschedule but let me reassure you that if you don’t paddle you’ll get a 100% refund. If we start and complete 50% this will be considered non refundable however you you will always have the option to reschedule before departure.

We provide your kayak, paddle and life vest, we’ll also provide instruction and direction. We do however encourage people dress appropriately with light weight clothing avoiding dark colours and water shoes are a good option. It’s essential you bring water (Aussie Mike often has bottled water for sale) for hydration. It is Mandatory that someone in your party brings a phone in case of emergency (dry bags available for rent upon request).

Our guides do accept and greatly appreciate tips! Standard gratuity is usually 20%, but feel free to tip your guide more if you loved their tour!

This location does require crossing busy boast channels and dealing with severe boat wake before you can escape into the beautiful secluded section waterways. All of Aussie Yaks tours are designed for leisure, family friendly fun. Lets not forget you are not in a lake so their is a current to contend with along with wind chop depending on conditions but Aussie Yaks doesn’t take risk’s so if the conditions aren’t safe you’ll be offered rescheduling and if that isn’t possible full refund available.

We ask that you plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your tour start time.

Mike or one of his team will provide a 5-7 minute safety and skill demonstration. This will guide you through some minimum water safety instructions and a brief paddle demonstration. If you don’t arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your booking you will waive this demonstration as we are on strict time schedules.

We highly recommend bringing some appropriate footwear, water shoes, old runners something to protect yourself from oysters, rocks, anything sharp.
